DAY 1
Front Street
The Banyan Tree, Shave Ice & Art
PRO TIP: Dining in will be difficult without reservations BUT there are many amazing food trucks on the island where you will get a bigger bang for your buck and no reservations required!
ON our first official day in Maui, our friends decided to give u a grand tour of the neighborhood. Our tour brought us to one of the busiest places in Maui, Front Street.
First Stop:
The legendary Banyan Tree, the most famous landmark in Lahaina. Planted in 1873 by the sheriff to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Mission. The tree was originally brought to Maui from India, and was only 8 feet high at the time of its planting. It now has a dozen main trunks and spreads over the better part of the acre.
Did you know:
the Banyan (ficus benghalensis) is one of more than 750 species of fig trees, each of which is pollinated only by its own species of tiny wasps that breed only inside the figs of their partner trees. Banyans are considered straggler figs. They grow from seeds that land on other trees and the roots they send down smother their hosts and grow into stout, branch- supporting pillars that resemble new tree trunks.

Second Stop:
Shave Ice at Lahaina Gelato. Itโs a common practice to put ice cream on
the bottom of your shave ice, in this case, we added coconut ice cream.
If you ever want to visit this Shave Ice spot, look no further than across the road from the ginormous Banyan Tree. You canโt miss it ๐
Third Stop:
Nano Lopez Gallery
Artist Nano Lopez is gifted with the rare ability to see the world as a child sees it, with exploration, wonder, and creativity. He is deeply fascinated by the sometimes troubling mysteries of life and its inherent struggles.
SPOTTED!
This awesome little pup was out with their human on Baby Beach for our early morning walk along the shore in Kahoma Village. Just a little side note worthy of sharing ๐
Maui’s Hook, hand carved by a local. Walking down Front Street you can’t miss it.
