Whenever Josh feels home sick we like to bring flavors from Maryland and Korea into our cooking. When I feel homesick we like to bring in flavors from Guyana. Food is truly a direct way of revisiting your childhood or just a special memory and this dish is a way for the both of us to get a taste of that home we miss so much. Sometimes food can hold bad memories, but I think we can all agree that it’s mostly good ones and this recipe is all good!

My amazing family in Guyana helped my mom and dad bring back a ton of fresh steamed crab from their last visit. Sadly, there was one individual on their flight to Guyana that tested positive when they landed, so they were forced to quarantine for 10 days out of their 14 day trip. Thankfully, they were able to go catch some crab in the time that they had.

Upon receiving this crab along with a variety of fried fish, homemade hot sauces and fried snacks, we naturally decided to visit the flavors of Maryland for at least one batch of this delicious crab! The Korean touch in this recipe is the addition of napa cabbage, the Guyanese touch is the crab and the Maryland touch is that good ole Old Bay seasoning and soup.

This turned out to be one of our favorite recipes to date. The broth is hearty, great for dipping bread into, and the crab meat sucks up all of those beautiful flavors. We can easily eat an entire pot of these little guys no problem!
